Ashwin Desai

Ashwin Desai is currently affiliated to the Centre for Civil Society at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. One of South Africa's foremost social commentators, Dr Desai's work is internationally celebrated for its courage and clarity of vision and for its focus on the lived experience of oppression and resistance. He is the author of We are the Poors, which details the growing resistance to neoliberalism in post-apartheid South Africa, and (with Goolam Vahed) Inside Indenture: A South African Story, 1860-1914. His other books include The Race to Transform: Sports in Post Apartheid South Africa, and Reading Revolution: Shakespeare on Robben Island.
