Alfred W. McCoy

Alfred W. McCoy, a professor at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, has written extensively about Philippine political history, opium trafficking in the Golden Triangle, underworld crime syndicates, and international political surveillance. Perhaps his most well-known work was his 1972 book The Politics of Heroin in Southeast Asia, which documented the involvement of the CIA in the production of heroin in the Golden Triangle of Burma, Thailand, and Laos. His most recent book is In the Shadows of the American Century: The Rise and Decline of US Global Power (Haymarket 2017).
